Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, Pizza Poppa? It’s difficult to remember a time before “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” introduced the guardian angel of saucy treats into our lives, but it’s only been a little over a month since Bruce Campbell made his MCU debut as the most important character in Doctor Strange’s latest adventure. Sure, there were lots of magic users and a kid who could jump through dimensions, but all of them pale in comparison to Pizza Poppa, who stole out hearts, broke the fourth wall, and shattered our conception of ‘za.
On one hand, the phrase “Pizza poppa always gets paid!” does not bode well for any unionization attempts in what I presume to be a multi-billion dollar pizza ball franchise… But politics aside, surely we can all unite behind Pizza Poppa! At the very least, nothing brings people together like a common enemy, and if it comes down to Doctor Strange vs Pizza Poppa, Bruce Campbell’s overenthusiastic street vendor would easily win over the very annoying, no good, very bad wizard man. It’s already been very well documented that the so-called “hero” did Pizza Poppa dirty, so instead of relitigating the torture he endured, let’s turn our attention to another crucial aspect of the character: his famous pizza balls!

Pizza Poppa’s Pizza Balls
Babish takes two approaches to the pizza purveyor’s saucy product, both of which contain the same key four elements: dough, sauce, cheese, and tiny pepperoni. The first is a spin on cinnamon rolls, but even though his pizza rolls are definitely round and definitely pizza, they aren’t quite the same as the treats we saw America Chavez and Stephen Strange chow down on. Luckily, his second attempt gets a lot closer: he basically makes garlic knots, injects them with pizza sauce, then tops it off with cheese and pepperoni.
